Remote Control Handset Repair

This type of remote control is easy to repair.

I put new batteries in it, tested it with a camera and only the standby button was not working reliably.

So I used a hair dryer to soften the plastic housing and then worked a spudger around the perimeter to crack it open.

I used isopropyl alcohol to clean corrosion off the battery contacts and to degrease the PCB. I scrubbed the rubber keypad and case in hot, soapy water, followed by alcohol.

Then I dried it off on a dehumidifier vent followed by the hair dryer.

I trimmed a piece of aluminium foil roughly into a circle and placed it on the "Standby" button pad with a little rubber adhesive to secure it.

I reassembled and tested it with the camera in my phone.
