This is a piece of land on which has been built a taverna surrounded by stone edifices, caged animals and curiosities. Even the official guide books struggle to describe it. | | | On the way home we parked in Kalives and walked a long way to find "papyrus" bookshop. We found it but, as it's Sunday, the shop was kleesto. Here's the bridge over the river at Kalives. | | | The river upstream of the bridge. | | We stopped at a taverna on the beach. There was a lovely cool breeze so we stopped for lunch. Pastitseea for both of us. Mince with macaroni and cheese on top, with other stuff thrown in for flavour. I forgot to take a photo (sorry). On the way home we stopped at our local shop to buy provisions. Jenny drove on while I picked up milk and bananas. I had forgotten that I was wearing a T-shirt that I'd had printed with "Sorry but I'm English" in Greek. The outer covered section of the shop was full of Aspaseea's family members, so the shirt attracted some comments! "Why does it say that on your shirt?" they chorused (in Greek). "Because I don't speak Greek," I replied, (in Greek). This triggered peals of laughter. | We both fell asleep. Well, it IS Sunday! Jenny had forgotten to buy garlic (skortho) so, later, she had to walk up the hill to get some. She put the lamb in the oven at about 5pm to make "Kleftico". I peeled 3 potatoes and put them to boil and we ate 2 hours later after a long "Skype" telephone call with Laurence and Carol. | | It's nearly time for "The X-Factor" so I'll have to stop now. Tomorrow I may have the story of how we collected the car - or it might be "avrio". Send this page address - CLICK HERE - to a friend ! Monday - Collecting The Car Return to Index |
