Cretan Diary - Chapter 21
Thursday (Mike) and The DishOctober 8, 2009 This morning I'm waiting for Graeme to install my satellite TV dish that Terry and Matt brought in the van. Graeme Cook arrived just after 10am to install my 1.2 metre satellite dish and gravity got a whole lot more scary! Yes, we had to climb onto the roof. We did so via this ladder from the balcony, which tilted sideways as Graeme reached roof level with the dish in one hand. Luckily, Graeme didn't drop himself or the dish and I steadied the ladder while he regained his balance. Here's Graham, preparing the dish mount while I look down and wonder if I would land on my tummy and bounce. The mount is bolted firmly to the roof and the dish is lifted into place. Graeme checks the alignment with his meter and adjusts the dish to get the best possible signal. Here's my miniature TV set in the bedroom with my Sky "Minibox". Job complete! (I made it look easy but it took three hours plus a lunch break to install the dish and cable.) Today the "iSight" web camera that I ordered from eBay arrived at the shop. Jenny went to collect it. While I was on the roof I noticed that the aerial had been installed by a complete idiot. Instead of sawing off the excess mast, he had snapped off one of the director elements! (red arrow). In addition, there's an amplifier fitted (yellow arrow) but no sign of a power supply in the house. Some twit has taken the power supply, probably thinking it was the aerial amplifier. This evening we dined in the restaurant above the shop. Jenny didn't want her free yoghurt with honey so I had to eat it. "Yahoortee meh melee". Mmmmm! Darn! I just realised that I missed my siesta AGAIN today.
