Red Light Eye Therapy October 26, 2025 |
| | I went into the workshop to build a project that I've been meaning to do for years. I bought a bunch of red LEDs a long time ago exactly for this after an acquaintance in America mentioned the beneficial effect of red light on the eyes. |
| | It's just a simple "joule thief" circuit that pulses two lots of 6 LEDs in series parallel at about 30 kHz. It's powered by an AAA 1.5 volt battery cell and I housed the cell in a homemade holder made from a lip balm stick. A spring from a broken battery holder and a piece of phosphor bronze form the negative and positive connections, respectively. I pull the cap halfway off to disconnect. |
| The LEDs glow quite brightly but not bright enough to harm the eyes even when close. This crude prototype was put together as proof of concept. I might build something more sophisticated - maybe into a pair of safety goggles. |
| | This is the basic circuit diagram. |
